3rd Saturday of June - October 15
Lake Nipissing, South Bay and the French River provide ideal habitat for trophy muskies, with hundreds of key structural elements, deep-water humps, shoals, island saddles, weedlines, cabbage and coontail weedbeds. |
 |
Although abundant in Lake Nipissing, muskies are still comparatively rare, especially world-class specimens. To reflect this, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) has implemented a musky season, size, catch and possession limits aimed at maintaining and improving the fishery. Similarly, Ontario Muskie Alliance member lodges endorse and promote a total "catch & release" policy for muskellunge. |
| Muskies Canada has instituted a recognition program which awards a Certificate of Appreciation and a Public Release Pin to anglers who release muskies exceeding the legal length.
Similarly, for conservation purposes, Lake Nipissing's South Shore fishing outfitters, including the Waltonian Inn Resort, have implemented an early closure for musky season - October 15th. |
