From Opening Day through mid-June, the fishing for yellow perch can be phenomenal at Lake Nipissing, with limit catches of "jumbos" the norm rather than the exception. Fishing live-bait rigs (minnows) over the submerged points of the Manitou Islands in 16 to 32 feet of water is a consistent spring pattern.

Good perch fishing continues through the summer months along weedlines and in the lake's weedier sections where small jigs and live baits are most effective.
